Tribal Group: Dogon of Mali -
West Africa,

Carving/sculpture, sandstone,
Ancestral equestrian figure, Rider on horseback.

Size: 10" tall x 7" wide

Horses were symbols of wealth among ancient Dogon Tribe members. The source for this powerful piece was Timbuctou To You, a dealer who frequented the Dogon escarpment where the Dogon people inhabited caves that provided protection from rivals. The source claimed to have retrieved it from an abandoned cave.
He estimated the age, in 1997, as 200 years +/-

Maybe or maybe not. We can only confirm the last 25 years of it's history. Still, it is an intriquing old item of African tribal art from the Dogon escarpment of Mali.
