Fetish carvings by Lena Boone"Lena Boone is one of the most prominent and prolific fetish carvers at Zuni. She is the grand-daughter of the legendary Teddy Weahkee and the daughter of Edna Leki, both of whose talent clearly has been passed on to Lena. She lives in a modest home on the Zuni Pueblo and is very hospitable to visitors. Beyond her extraordinary skills and artistry, Lena brings a huge sense of humanity to everything she does. In addition to her daughter, Evalena, and her son, Leland, both of whom are accomplished and growing carvers, Lena has provided shelter, comfort and guidance to numerous Zuni children. We are privileged to know Lena. A selection of her carvings can be found at our ZuniLink pages. |

Fetish
carvings by Wilson Romero, Cochiti
Wilson
Romero has a distinctive style that, while similar in some ways
to his brother, Salvador, has its own charm and appeal. His carvings
are both rough and refined, depending on the material. He frequently
carves basalt or lava rock, but also carves in other pueblo stones.
Wilson has been relatively inactive for the past few months, recuperating
from by-pass surgery. He now is back at full strength and carving
again. See Wilson's work here. |
